Shen Yun Says CCP Behind Global Bomb Threats

Chinese Communist Party Bomb Threats

A wave of threats, disruptions, and intimidation has followed the internationally touring dance company Shen Yun, with the group alleging links to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) behind the incidents.

Shen Yun, a New York-based performing arts group founded in 2006 by practitioners of the Falun Gong spiritual movement, has long positioned itself as a revival of traditional Chinese culture “before communism.” However, its global performances have increasingly been accompanied by security concerns.

According to statements from company representatives, venues hosting Shen Yun shows in multiple countries have received bomb threats, forcing evacuations and heightened security responses. In one instance, threats reportedly targeted the residence of Australia’s prime minister ahead of a scheduled performance. Similar incidents were reported in North America and Taiwan, with some threats traced back to locations in China.

Performers and organisers claim these actions are part of a broader campaign aimed at silencing the group’s message. Shen Yun representatives argue that their performances, which often depict human rights issues and religious persecution in China, have drawn the ire of Beijing.

The Chinese government has consistently denied such allegations, maintaining its longstanding position that Falun Gong is an illegal organisation and dismissing claims of persecution as unfounded.

Human rights advocates, however, point to a wider pattern of pressure faced by groups critical of the CCP. They argue that the incidents surrounding Shen Yun reflect growing concerns about transnational repression, where influence and intimidation extend beyond national borders.

Despite the threats, Shen Yun continues its global tour, performing in major cities across Europe, North America, and Asia. Company officials state that they remain committed to their mission, even as security risks persist.
